Inspired by the experience of bringing our son Sebastien home from the hospital, we set out on a mission to develop sleepwear that would keep our newborn warm at night in the absence of a swaddle or sleep sack. Newborns are unable to regulate their temperature in the same way as adults due to their immature skin & regulatory system, low body fat, and high surface area-to-body mass ratio. As such, when our OB advised against the use of swaddling for our baby, and we were unable to find a suitable alternative that was warm enough and compliant with Public Health Agency of Canada Safe Sleep Guidelines, Sleepy Sheep was born.
